Class Announcements
Standard Weekly Assignments
DOL is distributed on Mondays. We  complete one section each day, and go over the correct answers each day. We have a quiz on Friday of that week.

Read 4 Today is a standards-based set of activities. The practice page is distributed on Wednesday.  Students complete one section per day, and we go over the correct responses each day. There is a quiz on the following Wednesday.

Reading study guides are provided for most of the stories and books that we read. We complete the questions in class and go over the responses. Tests are taken from the study guide and are given as the reading assignment is completed.

These assignments are subject to change during short weeks, over a holiday, or weeks with early dismissals. Please check the agenda for modifications of this type.
Reading
Our school is continuing to implement Balanced Literacy this year.  I will be using a combination of the Reading textbook, leveled readers, and novels this year. Students will be reading independently each day as part of their reading intruction.
Classroom Needs
Parents and guardians, I am asking for your help.  Our classroom is always in need of suppplies. We are in need of Kleenex, hand sanitizer, pencils, cap erasers, and loose leaf notebook paper.  These items are needed daily.  We could also use donations of colored pencils, glue sticks, and markers.  Any help that you can give us in this area will be greatly appreciated.  Please make sure your student has his/her own pencils, erasers, and paper.
Meet the Teacher
My name is Gina McCarty Smith.  I graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School in 1980, and from USC Aiken with a degree in Elementary Education in 1984.  I received my Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina in 1992.

I am married to Bert Smith and have two sons, Matt and Dave.  My oldest son, Matt, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2008, and is now serving in the US Navy.  My youngest son, Dave, is a sophomore at USC-Aiken this year.

We have a three year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Belle, and we live on Lake Murray.  In my spare time I enjoy reading, spending time on our boat, playing with my dog, and following the Batesburg-Leesville Panther football team. GO PANTHERS!!
